Stellarium

Stellarium is a desktop planetarium program that creates realistic images of the sky. It is available for Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X, although it uses OpenGL for 3D rendering. You can download it from SourceForge.

Stellarium was originally written by Fabien Chéreau and is run as an Open Source SourceForge project. It is available under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL), which strives to make this software and its source code freely open to others as long as they make their modifications free open to others, too.

commonname.fab contains the star name data for Stellarium and is located in the /data/ directory if you unpack the tarball. After some hours of review, I have created a list of suggested changes and have applied them to an updated commonname.fab file that you can download and substitute. Feel free to send me comments.
