Dr. Milton Huang
Background
My undergraduate training was at Stanford University, where I received a BS in Electrical Engineering and an AB in Psychology. I went to medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. I was interested in the brain, and chose to specialize in psychiatry, getting residency training at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. I applied some of my technical background, creating a "psychiatric informatics" fellowship. I joined the faculty seeing patients, teaching and doing research that focused on the impact of technology on psychiatry. My research specialization was on the emotional effects of Virtual Reality, treating phobias with virtual heights.
In 2001, I returned to California, where I did some part time clinical psychiatric work at the County of Santa Cruz Health Services Agency and at the University of California, Santa Cruz. I also maintained a small private practice that emphasized psychotherapy. I closed my practice in March 2008 and am currently learning more about brain waves and practicing neurofeedback with Mark Steinberg. Having now run over 2000 sessions on over 300 different people, I have seen powerful effects from use of this treatment modality.
Interests
My current focus is on electrophysiology of brain and body. I find this a vast arena to pursue my interest in complex systems and understanding people physiologically, psychologically, and socially. I include myself when talking about understanding people and continue to work on better defining and expanding my goals, passions, self-awareness and relationships.
I am also interested in acupuncture, but have not yet acquired a scientific understanding of what 'chi' is, although I practice tai chi chuan.
I also have an interest in the history and mythology of the stars.
